The Prequel I was born in Redlands, California on March 27, 1984, and since then, I've lived in various towns in Oregon and California. Now, I split my time between Santa Cruz and Newport Beach. I'm majoring in politics, and I'm interested in a life in academia. I enjoy reading, writing poetry, filmmaking listening to and creating music, surfing, snowboarding, bodysurfing, snorkeling, scaring myself, and being a romantic. I'm an anarchist, and a vegetarian. Ex-straight edge, but ditched it for a life without labels and misconceptions. A brief cast list: High School (Act I): Nixon (Matt)- tall, blonde, skinny, scenester. I've had some differences with him, and we're not as good as friends as we used to be, but I can hang around him. Seville (Taran)- Nixon's cohort. Extremely creative, but falls into strange cycles of depression, generally based on his successes and failures with girls, and also by what Nixon thinks of him. Angel (Katie)- quite possibly one of the best friends I've ever had. I've had an off-and-on crush on her for five years. She's loyal, beautiful, and one of the most genuine people I've ever known. Mercedes (Lauren)- the girl I fell for- hard- my senior year. I've since lost touch with her. Groupie (Sarah)- my female double. We've had some real adventures together, even if I don't hang with that crew anymore. Hacker (Blake)- an extremely talented, but lazy kid. Has the potential to destroy or create something awesome just by a few keystrokes. Frenchie (Emilie)- Blake's (ex?)-girlfriend. Goes to UC Berkeley, haven't talked to her in a long time. The Keyboardist (Ryan)- a kind, sweet, gentle kid. I befriended him after I graduated. Dating 2Z's sister, quite possibly one of the best people I know. 2Zs (Zach)- one of my best friends. I met him six years ago at freshman orientation, and we've been fast friends ever since. The Italian Stallion (Mike)- we learned to surf together, also six years ago, and our friendship's outlasted long flat spells and gigantic double-overhead days. Musical (Ben)- Nixon's little brother. Friendly, shy, creative, in many ways what Nixon wasn't, but other ways, what Nixon could never be. Freshman Year (Act 2): Vea- my ex-girlfriend. We dated for almost a year and a half, but we broke up. After a lot of drama, things are kind of ugly now. Lauren- Vea's friend, from the Virgin Islands. A very funny, nice person, hung up in a relationship with a real shithead. Transferred to Deleware. Ben- my former roommate. Transferred from UCSC to Claremont after freshman year. Has since mellowed out, and become a lot more fun to be around. Edison- my Peruvian friend. Hard-drinking, dependent on pot, but he's been there for me. Cole- Looks like Heath Ledger, and devoted to his friends. Stoic, and disarmingly friendly. Sam- one of my surfing buddies. Allison- the first girl I had a crush on when I came to UCSC. Realized it'd be disastrous if I ever acted on it, and she’s since transferred. We’ve lost touch. Lane- small, often friendly, but I've disapproved of what he's done in terms of relationships and how he treats women. Michaela- Edison's ex-girlfriend. Coincidentally, now the girlfriend of Marie's brother. Kyle- a lanky, critical, extremely intelligent kid, who for all our differences, we really seem to be cut from the same mold. Tyler- Kyle's best friend. Happy-go-lucky, bearded, looks like a pirate. A wonderful kid, and one of my housemates. Quinn- over a year, transformed from a hard-drinking lout who made a Goatse t-shirt and wore it to class to a dapper gentleman. Extremely bright and well-spoken. Jessica- one of the coolest girls I've ever met. Since ditched the God Squad, and is one of my most loyal friends. Jordan- Jessica's best friend. Even more religious than Jessica, and has gotten in my face about my own religious ideas before. Sophomore Year (Act 3): Sean- tall, lanky, sweet, and gnarly as fuck. Great kid, but I'd hate to piss him off when he's armed. Fellow anarchist, fellow stoner, fellow surfer. Jeff- Sean's roommate. Smart kid, very knowledgeable about his music. Brian- The token Republican on my floor. A very nice, affable kid- gets along with everyone, and was my partner on my week-long squat trip in the woods. Gregor- Brian's roommate. They've almost killed each other a few times, but all told, they get along fine. Marie and Mallory- two friends from home, now roommates. Too sweet and innocent for the likes of this town. Aisha and Kakshi- another "friends since third grade" duo. Very friendly, although opposites of one another. Bryant- a lanky, afro'd kid who writes At The Drive-In-esque poetry. Smart as Nixon, but without the huge ego. David- another anarchist friend. We squatted in Golden Gate Park together, and watched each other’s backs in the Black Bloc. Articulate, well-liked, and intelligent. And life is, as they say, quite good.
